New York Whole house dehumidifier setup

I had a Sani Dry Sedona installed, but I think it was done incorrectly.
The way it was installed was at the cold air return, and then returned back into the cold air return.

Based upon some diagrams (and some additional reasoning), it seems like the return should go back into the supply trunk for the house. That way, even if the Geo isn't running, I would still get the benefit of whole house de-humidification and purification.

I have attached a couple of diagrams that show this, but I would like to get examples of how others have done this, please.

I don't know if it's incorrect or not, but the dehumidified air can be heated up by the heat pump the way they have it.

Is it set up to run the fan in the heat pump when ever the dehumidifier is running?

Hi Chris - Thanks for responding...
You are right, the way they did it would make sense if it also kicked on the fan, but it doesn't. It just dumps it back into the cold air return. So, when the heat exchange it running, yes, it works well, but for other times it would be useless.
