I am thinking of switching over to geothermal heat/AC and want to use one of the two wells I have on my property to provide heat transfer. Either way it would be open loop. I know how much a geo heat pump uses while operating.. but I don't have an understanding what % of the day it would be cycled on during winter and summer. Anyone who can shed some light on that would be most appreciated.

Also, one of my wells is an old ground water well 30" by 36' with about 30' worth of water normally. could this be used for a closed loop system... particularly if I had a temperature controlled pump that would pull water from the well if it got too hot/cold and allow it to refresh more quickly than simply moving the temperature from the bricks into the ground.

Runtime solely depends on the load (how much heating do you need in relation to the capacity. A larger capacity will cycle more, and run 100% only on colder days (or never). Same for cooling....
