I have 9 years old 4 ton Waterfurnace closed loop system unit.It wont run. Tried to turn fan on manualy on thermostat, nothing hapents. Red light for air flow is on.Checked power to the ECM motor and there is 240 V . Does red light -air flow mean that there is fault with motor or the board and how hard is it to troubleshut which one it is? Thanks
bunaca, Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to determine what the issue might be. We would suggest you contact your installing contractor to discuss your concerns. If they are unable to provide you with a resolution, please have them contact our technical support staff for further assistance.
The red light you are seeing is either an RPM fault or motor failure. When you switch the fan into continuous mode on your thermostat does it turn on? Typically to fix is as easy as turning off the RPM switch until a dealer can come in and make a repair. Is the main board in your unit TAN or Green? Model ATV or PO?
fan not running Thanks Michael, Motor will not run if I switch it to manual on the thermostat. What is RPM switch? I'm not at home for few days so can't tell what type of a board I have.Let you know as soon as I get back home.
If you have electric heat backup then yes. The ecm motor is powered through the Aux heat. Check to be sure that breaker is in fact turned on. T
If I'm not mistaken, the breaker that controls the fan also controls the circuit board that OP mentioned had a red light on. That would seem to indicate that breaker is on. j
Joe - I confirmed that this is the case with our Envision unit. The breaker that controls one of our aux heat packs also controls our blower and our status lights. The OP's unit is 9 years old. I have no idea if this is the same for him.
Yes fan is controled by Aux.heater power but power is on and board is on so problem must be either with the board or motor.I will be bying tester to test motor module to see if it is module or motor.Found some diagrams on the net regarding how to test module so that is next.Let you know when I get the tester what was the problem. Thanks for the help.
EXTREME CAUTION NEEDED!!! If you are going to test the module be aware there is a bank of capacitors inside that will kill you if not handled properly. Bergy
same syptons today on a premiere 2. Very visible scorched connector between ECM motor body and bell (2 screws to look). j
found problem Just got time to look into the problem with a fan not coming on.Problem is module on the ECM motor. It has blown some electronic parts inside it and I will have to find new module.I know that compressor has 10 years warranty, but not sure for the motor if it is 5 or 10 years.Unit is 3 ton Waterfurnace ,build 2001.I was able to get module for GE EMC motor at local dealer for the Carrier furnace but not sure if the same module would work on this motor that is for Waterfurnace. Is there a dealership in Toronto area that sells ECM module for Waterfurnace units? Motor is GE 1/2 HP , 1050RPM , runs on 240V, rot.CCW model# 5SME39HL0315 Thanks
You will need... the MODULE number, not the MOTOR numbers. The ECM modules are programed for their specific uses. Bergy
Only number on module is: GE 1/2 HP CN02 135MG date: 02/07/01 Just opened ECM and it looks like thermisitor is blown (Thermisitor SG348 ).I will try get one tomorrow and replace it .If I don't find it I will jump it just to see if motor will run If motor runs than I will proove that it was thermisitior.
the modules are programmed for WaterFurnace so unfortunately carrier modules wont work. The reason is the communication function that waterfurnace has on their boards. You can just replace the module if you cant get the thermistor replaced yourself. Motors are expensive, modules are not.
This is the way to test the motor and trobleshut module.I have purchased Techmate pro tester and it works perfect. http://www.cozyparts.com/Lennox-Parts/forum/lennox_servicing_pdfs/ecm_motor_servicing guide.pdf Who sells those modules for Waterfurnace around here and how much are they? Thanks
Bunaca, WaterFurnace is represented by a distributor in the Toronto area. The name of the distributor is Eden Energy. We would suggest contacting them at (519)821-8478 for more information.
