I saw today that Waterfurnace is offering an instant rebate. It's $2,000 for a Series 7 and $1,000 for a Series 5.

Can someone who knows explain how the instant rebate works with respect to the dealer's costs? Does Waterfurnace cover the entire cost of the rebate and keep the dealer's profit the same? Or does Waterfurnace ask the dealer to absorb some of the costs of the rebate, by giving the dealer a discount that's a little less than the rebate?

They want to dealer to give $2000 rebate for the 7 series, but they do not give the dealer $2000 off the equipment. Thus they expect the dealer to reduce their margins....sometimes not possible.

@docjenser thank you. I received a quote in June, signed a contract in mid-August with options for the 5 or 7 series, and heard about the rebate in September before the loop was installed or any equipment was ordered. The dealer didn't want to give me the full $2,000 rebate on the 7 series, but agreed to pass along what he said was his discount. With that, his margin would stay the same in absolute terms, and actually go up as a percentage of the sale. The loop was installed last week.
