Nebraska Should the compressor run constantly while the heat pump is operating?

Hello Everyone - First-time user, and considering that I've had a geothermal Florida Heat Pump for 19 years, I should know its nuances.
I recently had a refrigerant charge, after which the heat pump has been working as well as it ever has - as far as generating heat. But when I'm in the basement and the heat pump is running, I'm always able to hear the hum of the compressor. It seems like in the past, I've been down there and heard the heat pump running, but no compressor hum. And I know that the auxiliary heat was never involved. Also, before it seemed like the air coming from the registers varied in temperature, where now it's pretty consistent.
So my question: Is a system designed so that the compressor runs constantly while the heat pump is operating? It seems like the compressor could cycle on and off, depending on the coil temperature.
    Thanks!

Yep, when the heat pump is on the compressor is on, otherwise there is not heat transfer.

if your fan is set to "on" instead of "auto", then the compressor can shut down and the fan keeps running. This would blow cooler air.
