Recently, my heat pump has had quite a few lock outs. Each time it has happened, I had been doing lots of cooking or baking and the system had not been running because the room temperature stayed up for an extended period of time. Geo system is in the basement and it is cooler down there. Also "auxilary heat" is frequently showing up on my thermostat but then it goes away. Another problem is that is seems to run almost constantly all night like it is struggling to heat the house. I do not have the breaker turned on for the auxilary heat and it has not been on previously. My system is 8 years old. It is a closed loop system with 5 loops. I live in Wisconsin and it has not really been any colder than normal. Any ideas on what I should do? I do not know how to check the temperature of the water in the loop or the antifreeze. Would low antifreeze cause this problem? If so, how do I check it and how do I check the water temps?
