Greetings GEOExchange Forum, I'm a college student at Washington University in St. Louis who is doing research on geothermal heat pumps this summer while I'm home in Westchester, New York. This forum has been extremely useful to me and I was wondering if the contractors could provide a bit more information to me for my research. Right now I'm wondering about the real cost-breakdown for installation of both vertical and horizontal loops: How much does it cost (to you) to drill a single vertical-bore loop hole? I know that local conditions and loop length change that cost significantly (like everything else GHP related), but how much does it cost just to bring the equipment and piping necessarily out to location? Is cost to drill additional holes after the first significantly higher? How much does all the piping/connections cost to both you and the consumer. Is the marginal cost of additional piping very high? Additionally, What are the actual components that link a loop field to a home. What piping, manifolds, etc are necessary to create a complete geothermal heat pump system. Is there any particularly expensive component? If you'd not post this information publicly, feel free to send me a private message on the forum with the information, or I'll give you my e-mail. Thank you all in advance for your help!
