So I have 2 quotes from 2 different places one place does nothing but GEO and the other is a HVAC company that also installs GEO. I'll call HVAC place "HVAC" and GEO place "GEO" This is going in west MI area GEO $21,155 HVAC $18432 These price are for a new construction so ductwork, zone and water heat are included Other than price the only diff I know of is what type of unit they are using GEO: 3 Ton High Efficiency two stage (Florida Heat Pump) Geothermal Unit with the following options: High efficiency Copeland Scroll Compressor 5 Year complete Refrigerant Circuit warranty Thermal Expansion Valve Anti Short cycle relay 3/4 inch sound insulation package Insulated water, refrigerant and condensate tubing Insulated Coax water coil HVAC: BARD GEO Heat pump GV38S1AN, 2 Stage, 3 Ton Electric Heater 7KW (Only info they listed on Quote) Both are Horizontal closed loop and the GEO place uses the slinky method. Unsure what the HVAC place uses. Based on the units alone are there any huge differences? Any more questions I should ask of the companys? Any contractors on here near West MI that would like to offer a Quote?
I am never the lowest bidder. In Cleveland even with Johnny Football in town, I would be hard pressed to do a conventional forced air system for those numbers. Are the loop field and pumps included? Mark
Yeah loops and every thing. Conventional heat cost in our area for that house are around $8000 for ducts and all so we must be a cheap area.
"GEO: 3 Ton High Efficiency two stage (Florida Heat Pump) Geothermal Unit with the following options: High efficiency Copeland Scroll Compressor 5 Year complete Refrigerant Circuit warranty Thermal Expansion Valve Anti Short cycle relay 3/4 inch sound insulation package Insulated water, refrigerant and condensate tubing Insulated Coax water coil" I'm not a fan of this quote. Most of the "Options" are standard equipment. If you are in Michigan, where is the Aux heat? Also, I believe a longer warranty is required for the tax credit. Perhaps some of the other guys will chime in on this. Most Geo brands have a 10 year parts and labor warranty... You need more info before signing a contract.
$8,000 for a conventional system sounds like code minimum prices. My first question was what is the calculated load for the house. Are you soliciting the bids or is a builder? Where in West MI?
Must be typing at the same time Bergy........5 year labor 10 year part are energy star minimums. Are these old quotes? I noticed you said Florida heat pump not Bosch.
No these are current just got them a couple weeks ago. I am getting the quotes, the $8000 quote was a builder number. He had a bosch as an option for another grand I think and that was a 10 yr warranty.
You want to know these things. I just lost a job to the builder. He wants to make money. We have been taking care of this hydronic heated home my customer sold for 12 years. It is your money, stay on this. Mark
Hmmm didn't know the FHP's were still sold without the Bosch label on resi units. wwwdotfhp-mfgdotcom
