I've heard of people using automotive windshield de-icer fluid in their loops. These generally use methanol as the de-icer.

Another place you might find methanol locally is at a farm tractor dealer / repair shop. They often use methanol added to water which is put in tractor tires to add ballast weight. The methanol is used to keep the water from freezing. These shops often have 55 gallon barrels of the stuff on hand and can easily provide a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff.

You can buy 5-gal buckets of methanol on Amazon for $79.

Methanol is also used for racing. If you have a local speed shop, check with them for availability and pricing.
