Hi, what’s the consensus on the forum? Do most people have a technician come in to do an annual systems check/maintenance on their geo system? Or just replace the air filter themselves and call a tech only if there is ever a problem?

You don't need a tech every year. I change the filter twice per year and clean out the condensate pump once per year. If it's a closed loop system you might want to check the loop pressure once a year or so to make sure it's within spec. You can do all that yourself. Open loop might require descaling the heat exchanger, depending on the water quality.

I had My original unit checked for maintenance once in 17 years. All they did was check the loop pressures and temperature differences. I changed the filter once a year just before the cooling season. I had no real problems that maintenance would have prevented.

The hot water storage tank should also be partially drained of sediment. I learned the hard way and am now changing the taco pump.

I change my filters every 2 months. I could never get by doing it once a year.
