My 2008 Waterfurnace Envision coil is leaking. Warranty was 5yr. A repair guy diagnosed and added refrigerant as it was a pound low to get me thru the next few weeks of summer. Part is $XXXX installed. I have read alot about waterfurnace coils leaking, it sounds like a pretty common issue. I wanted to ensrue that waterfurance changed their coil design/coating before I have the tech install the same part that failed. The serivce company called waterfurnace and the replacement coil is the same part as the one that failed? Why would you repair with a part that is common to fail. Is this possible, or are they trying to steer me into buying a new unit. With the fed 30%, state of IA another 6%, and my local energy provider's $3K rebate, it may be easier to install a new unit. If I buy a new unit, I really don't want to go with Waterfurnace, I'm leaning toward Climatemaster or Bosch. Are there other brands I should be considering. I'm looking for thoughts/opinions on my situation. Thank you
Coil corrosion was not unique to Waterfurnace, it is still one of the best manufacturers around. Climatemaster has a proven record too, Bosch has the new designed SM series, some of the older units are still from the Florida Heat Pump design and quality.
36% off plus $3,000 is awfully compelling. Throw in a new warranty and you are really in biz. If you are a DIY type you might be able to replace this thing for the price of the repair.
I put in the first one back in 2008, but didnt really want to deal with this one. I have bids for climate master and water furnace installed. Based on the 2 bids, I guess I'll be putting this one in myself too later this fall when it cools off. I found a climate master distributor who was reasonable and has a flush cart they loan out as well.
