    Smile Geo Sizing

Hi everyone, have been doing a lot of research on this site, its been great, ready to pull the trigger on geo, just looking for some verification.

I am building a 2500 sf single story home in NY about 60 miles north of the big apple.
I have a proposal from a reputable contractor who did a manual j his loads show a Design heat load of 35766 BTUh. I will be heating and cooling with air, and have a desuperheater.
    Here are my questions:

The equipment he has specified is Climamaster 3ton TTV038 Heat Pump.

Vertical wells 2 wells at 275 feet deep with 1 1/4" pipe.

Heat pump will located in my basement with ductwork in basement also. I have insulated the basement walls with 3" foam, and 1" below slab. I will be doing all the other air infiltration to do lists caulking, ...etc.

My question is does the equipment match the manual J, if all is installed correctly is this the right size equipment for my home.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sounds fine to me too!

Have a blower door test run before drywall goes up to prove all the supposed work to reduce infiltration is effective. If necessary use theatrical smoke to locate and seal air leaks - it is much easier to find and seal air leaks before drywall and finishes go up.

Without data, you have but an opinion.

That would call for a 2 ton in my AO, but my electricity is quite a bit cheaper. As long as you are ok with the price, the 3rd ton won't hurt anything.

I'm a bit upstate from you. My heating load was calculated at 38350 btu/hr. I have the same heat pump and it's perfectly sized for my place. You'll love it.

    Maybe A Bit Small

You may want the contractor to double check his heat load. 35,000 btuh seems rather small for a 2500 square foot home in New York. We operate out of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and our heat loads for a similarly sized house usually come out larger. Unless you have really taken great pains to over insulate your house and to install the best windows, you may want that heat load to be checked again.

35 Kbut/h is not unheard of for a new built with weather data 60 miles north of the big apple. That is about 13 btu/SQF which we achieve with much more unfavorable weather if people exceed the code a bit in terms of insulation. It does not hurt to double check....
